Continuing to provide comprehensive health care to the local community, Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital this month welcomed medical oncologist Amir Salam, M.D. He joins the team of leading oncologists and specialists at Houston Methodist Neal Cancer Center at Clear Lake. The addition of Salam gives cancer patients in Clear Lake and surrounding communities greater access to leading cancer care tailored to their individual needs without traveling far from home.

Salam is a board-certified and fellowship-trained medical oncologist, as well as a hematologist. He grew up locally and returned home to practice medicine after completing his education and training. He earned his medical degree from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences School of Medicine in Lubbock. He completed his internal medicine residency at Texas A&M Health Science Center in Temple, and his medical oncology fellowship from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

“I strive to deliver research-proven, patient-centered cancer care to our community in a compassionate manner and holistic setting,” said Dr. Salam. “I do this by getting to know my patients, reviewing their clinical data, evaluating their goals and discussing their care with other specialists to establish the roles of novel therapeutic approaches.”

His clinical interests include treating patients for colorectal cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer and pancreatic cancer.

His professional affiliations include the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, Association of Community Cancer Centers, Harris County Medical Society and Texas Medical Association.
