Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital is pleased to welcome palliative care specialist Channon Hudgins, M.D., to the medical staff.

Hudgins has joined Asha Wurdeman, M.D., as an on-site palliative care physician, providing relief from the pain and stress of symptoms for patients suffering from serious, chronic illnesses.

Hudgins earned her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She completed residencies at Frankford Hospital in Philadelphia and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s Regional Medical Center in Memphis.

Most recently, Hudgins completed a fellowship in palliative care at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston.

Hudgins is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology with a certificate of added qualification in hospice and palliative care.

“My experience as a practicing OB-GYN physician for many years gives me a unique perspective on the challenges that a hospital stay can create for patients,” said Hudgins. “I made the decision to change my career focus because I believe strongly in the value of palliative care to help patients maintain their dignity and quality of life even as they undergo treatment for a serious illness or face a long hospital stay. I’m excited to be joining Dr. Wurdeman
