The American Heart Association (AHA) Houston has named Carmen M. Herrera as the new vice president of development for the Houston market. Herrera brings more than 30 years of experience in fundraising, strategic partnerships and revenue growth across nonprofit and private-sector organizations. In her role, she will lead fundraising and development efforts across the Houston market, helping advance the Association’s mission to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.
Herrera brings extensive expertise in major and principal gifts, donor engagement, corporate partnerships, fundraising strategy, and the planning and execution of large-scale fundraising and stewardship events. She specializes in cultivating high-level relationships and assisting organizations secure transformative philanthropic investments that advance their mission.
Throughout her nonprofit career, Herrera has held senior development roles with organizations including United Way of Greater Houston, the Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce, March of Dimes Greater Houston, and the American Liver Foundation. She brings extensive experience leading fundraising initiatives, cultivating philanthropic partnerships, advancing donor engagement strategies, and building meaningful relationships with volunteers, community leaders, and supporters.
Prior to transitioning into nonprofit leadership, Herrera spent more than 20 years in financial services, advising individuals, families, and business leaders on wealth management, charitable giving, estate planning and legacy planning. Her combined expertise in philanthropy and financial strategy positions her to lead innovative fundraising efforts and deepen donor engagement in support of the organization’s mission.
