Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital announces the appointment of Jeffrey Wood, M.D., board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon, as the new Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Chief Quality Officer (CQO), effective immediately. Wood has served as the interim CMO/CQO since May and has been a valued member of Houston Methodist Sugar Land since 2000.

With over two decades of experience at Houston Methodist Sugar Land, Wood has established a reputation for clinical excellence and compassionate patient care. In his new role he will oversee the hospital’s medical staff and quality programs, working closely with several departments to uphold the commitment to delivering the highest standards of care.

“We are excited to have Dr. Wood continue in this crucial leadership position,” said Michael Garcia, senior vice president and CEO of Houston Methodist Sugar Land. “His deep connection to our hospital and community, coupled with his expertise in both clinical practice and quality management, make him an outstanding choice to lead our medical team. I know under his leadership we will enhance our commitment to delivering unparalleled care.”

Wood has been with Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine at Sugar Land since 2000, when he joined as an orthopedic spine surgeon. In 2010, he became a founding member of the Houston Methodist Neuroscience and Spine Center at Sugar Land (then named the Spine Center). In 2019, Wood became the chairman of the department of surgery at Sugar Land. In that role, he has focused on our surgeons, providing the highest standards of excellence in regulatory requirements.

“It is an honor to continue serving Houston Methodist Sugar Land in this new capacity,” Wood said. “I look forward to working alongside our exceptional staff to further improve patient outcomes and advance the quality of care we deliver every day. The culture here at this hospital is something special. I’ve seen firsthand how our hospital has grown and adapted to meet the needs of our patients and this community. By building on that foundation, I know we can continue to be innovative and compassionate in our care.”

Wood completed his medical education at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He completed internships at both Baylor and the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center for Orthopedic and Rehabilitation at Pennsylvania State University. He completed his orthopedic residency there in Pennsylvania. Wood then completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. He obtained his board certification from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in 2003.
