“Houston Methodist Sugar Land has made tremendous strides in its stroke program, recently earning the American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award,” said Ahmed. “My goal is to continue that growth and strengthen both our immediate response capabilities and our ongoing stroke care so that we can deliver even better outcomes for our patients to achieve the highest level of comprehensive stroke certification in Fort Bend County.”

Ahmed earned her medical degree from Stony Brook School of Medicine in New York before completing residency programs in internal medicine at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, New York, and in neurology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. She also completed a fellowship in neurocritical care at Emory School of Medicine in Atlanta.

Ahmed has extensive experience in developing and leading multi-disciplinary processes and protocols that improve both stroke response times and ongoing care. In her previous role as director of a hospital’s stroke program and creator of its neurocritical care unit, she achieved numerous milestones that improved teamwork and coordination and significantly enhanced the quality of care for patients experiencing stroke or other neurological conditions.

“Dr. Ahmed’s expertise in neurocritical care is exemplary,” said Houston Methodist Sugar Land CEO Chris Siebenaler. “She has a proven background in building robust teams and efficient processes that can make a life-saving difference for patients suffering from stroke, and we are excited to have her lead our already strong program.”
