The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is pleased to announce eight new members to its Board of Visitors (BOV), the institution’s nonfiduciary advisory board. These members bring vast expertise across multiple industries to help advance the institution’s mission to end cancer.

The following business and community leaders join nearly 300 members from across the United States and around the world:

David J. Beck – Houston, TX
Shell K. Berry – Augusta, GA
Cherie Flores - Houston, TX
Ana Lee Sanchez Jacobs – Houston, TX
R. Denton McLane – Birmingham, AL
Mary Onstead – Dallas, TX
Ben Rosenthal – Fort Worth, TX
Henry H. “Kurt” Timken – Glastonbury, CT

“Our Board of Visitors is strengthened by individuals who bring not only exceptional leadership and expertise, but also a deep commitment to advancing UT MD Anderson’s mission,” said James “Jim” L. Gallogly of Austin, chair of the BOV. “The newest members of our board join a distinguished community of advocates whose dedication helps propel progress against cancer. Together, they will play an important role in expanding our impact and supporting the lifesaving work taking place at UT MD Anderson.”

Gallogly became chairman of the board in 2024 and now begins his second two-year term in the leadership role.

“This exceptional group of business and community leaders exemplifies the spirit of service and commitment that drives UT MD Anderson forward,” said Jeffrey E. Lee, M.D., president ad interim of UT MD Anderson. “By sharing their time, talents and perspectives, these dedicated advocates help strengthen our efforts across the institution, extend the reach of our mission and increase our impact. We are incredibly appreciative of their support and the difference they help make for patients and communities around the world.”

Through their steadfast commitment and engagement, BOV members also are paramount to the success of UT MD Anderson’s fundraising efforts, explained Nati McWilliams, named senior vice president and chief philanthropy officer in September.

Their support has bolstered the success of the institution’s philanthropic campaign, Only Possible Here, The Campaign to End Cancer, which has raised more than $2.21 billion toward a goal of $2.5 billion.

“Our new members bring a deep commitment to advancing our mission,” McWilliams said. “Their partnership and guidance will help us accelerate discoveries and improve the lives of patients and families affected by cancer. We thank them for their service and look forward to working alongside them in the years ahead.
