The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center received one of the highest levels of recognition a hospital can obtain: Magnet Re-Designation for excellence in nursing services by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
MEDVAMC is the first VA medical center in the nation to achieve redesignation of Magnet status twice and is one of an elite group of Texas Medical Center facilities with Magnet Status. The Magnet Recognition Program ® recognizes health care organizations for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice. The ANCC’s Magnet Recognition Program is the leading source of successful nursing practices and strategies worldwide.
For nurses, the Magnet seal of approval helps identify hospitals where they can flourish as a professional, where they have the resources needed to provide high quality care, they feel valued, and are rewarded for going above and beyond for patients. Research has shown Magnet facilities consistently outperform other facilities in recruiting and retaining nurses.
A team of professionals from the ANCC visited MEDVAMC last month to appraise the Medical Center’s nursing services, clinical outcomes, and quality of patient care. As one of the largest VA Medical Centers in the country, MEDVAMC provides top quality health care to more than 100,000 military Veterans.
