HCA Affiliated Kingwood Medical Center announces $25.5 million expansion project

HCA Affiliated Kingwood Medical Center announced today plans for a $25.5 million expansion designed to meet the continued growth of Houston’s northeast communities. The planned expansion comes just two years after completion of a $27 million tower that added 68,000 square feet and 46 beds to the hospital.

Adding new services and 54,000 square feet are only the beginning. Kingwood Medical Center employs 650 full time staff and expects to add an estimated 225 new employees upon completing the expansion. The community will also benefit from the two new floors as the new space will enable the hospital’s physicians and staff to serve 4,000 more patients annually. Highlights of the expansion project include:

  1. Construction of a fourth and fifth floor on the existing bed tower with a total of 56 new, private beds with telemetry capabilities.
  2. Renovation and expansion of the Laboratory will include an entirely new lab constructed in an open bench design with a comfortable waiting and reception area as well as three blood draw stations.
  3. Expansion of the waiting area for the Imaging Department will provide a relaxed environment for all outpatients needing CT, MRI, ultrasound and X-ray services.
  4. A new service elevator will be constructed adjacent to the existing service elevator and will extend to all five floors of the patient tower.

Ground breaking on the new facility is scheduled for January 2010 with a projected completion date of fourth quarter 2010.
