Bay Area Regional Medical Center announces four-story expansion

Medistar Corporation is embarking on a four-story expansion of Bay Area Regional Medical Center (BARMC) which is located in the Houston suburb of Webster, Texas.

Bay Area Regional Medical Center is currently configured as a five-story, 232,000-square-foot, full-service, modern, general acute care hospital with 104 beds, five operating rooms, a Hybrid OR, a full-service emergency department, stateof- the-art cath labs, 3D mammography and advanced medical equipment. The expansion will significantly add to the hospital’s emergency, diagnostic and surgical services capabilities while nearly doubling its inpatient capacity. It also will further refine, enhance, and improve on its already formidable capabilities to meet the medical needs of the vibrant community it serves.

Carter Validus Mission Critical REIT, Inc., a joint venture owner with Medistar Corporation of the real estate at Bay Area Regional Medical Center, has committed to funding the build out and expansion of the hospital. “We are pleased to partner with Medistar Corporation and Bay Area Regional Medical Center on this world-class, modern hospital and are pleased to provide funds for the expansion of the existing facility in a market which clearly has a demand for additional services. Bay Area Regional Medical Center is a healing facility that puts the patient first and is committed to the latest technology – a strategy consistent with our view of partnering with best-in-class healthcare operations.”

The first phase of the expansion program will more than double the hospital’s emergency department capacity and state-of- the-art imaging, expanding the treatment room count from 11 to 23 (including three for trauma), and adding new Fast-Track beds.

According to Tim Schmidt, VP of Healthcare Operations for Medistar Corporation, the second phase will include the expansion of the cardiology department’s capabilities.

“We are adding a bi-plane cath lab and a new cardiac cath lab to the pair already at our hospital, a new interventional radiology suite, and additional cardiac patient treatment rooms. At the same time, we will add five large operating suites to respond to our growing surgery volume,” said Schmidt.

The build-out of the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th floors of the hospital will increase the total number of patient beds to approximately 200. Further reflecting Bay Area Regional Medical Center’s commitment to the families it serves, the 8th floor is being designed for women’s services. This will include labor and delivery rooms, two C-Section rooms, post-partum rooms, a well-baby nursery, and NICU. Part of the 9th floor will house administration and community conference rooms, accounting, and other support services.

When the expansion program is complete, Bay Area Regional Medical Center will total 373,000 square feet within nine stories.

“Bay Area Regional Medical Center was designed and constructed to meet the changing needs of patients and physicians alike. This expansion is important to the evolution and growth of our continued partnerships with Carter Validus, Bay Area Regional Medical Center and our many stakeholders. Our community deserves a modern, healing hospital that patients and their families are very well taken care of in a good and clean environment, and that our physicians can practice in a hospital that appreciates their dedication and commitment to our patients,” said Monzer Hourani, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Medistar Corporation.
